Labour for floor tiling usually costs R180–R320 per sqm. For example, a 20 sqm porcelain lounge floor costs about R3,600–R6,400 in labour, or R8,600–R19,400 including tiles, adhesive and grout.
Large-format tiles (such as 60×120 cm) are heavier and need a very flat surface, so they take longer to lay. Labour costs R300–R600 per sqm, up to twice the standard rate. A 25 sqm large-format floor typically costs R7,500–R15,000 in labour and R16,000–R41,000 all-in.
Only if it’s uneven. Tiles need a flat, level base, so a tiler may level the floor with a screed first. Surface preparation or screeding usually costs R500–R5,000, depending on the size and condition of the floor.
For about 100 sqm of porcelain floors, expect R18,000–R32,000 in labour, or R43,000–R97,000 including tiles and materials. The total depends mostly on the tiles you choose.
