THE RENEWABLE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT (R.E.I.P) Client Goal The School Governing Body (SGB) of a public secondary school, with over 1, learners, aims to reduce academic and administrative disruptions caused by the ongoing national load shedding. The ultimate goal is to ensure reliable power for critical infrastructure, such as computer laboratories and administrative offices, which will stabilise the quality of education provided to students. Situation Description South Africa's reliance on centralised energy grids has proven unstable. While the government aims to support the private sector in addressing this crisis, it has recently introduced a 10% import duty on solar panels. This regulation is intended to protect local manufacturers, attract investment, and deepen local value chains, but it simultaneously complicates the procurement process for solar installers and consumers. Furthermore, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has lowered the repo rate to 7% which decreased the prime lending rate to 11.50%, signalling a potential easing of financing costs for large capital projects. Objective Advise the SGB on the most financially responsible and supply-chain resilient strategy for buying and installing a new 50kVA integrated solar power system. The analysis must weigh capital investment costs, financing options, and procurement risks against the long-term benefits of energy security. KEY RESEARCH AREAS 1. Research the main parts of a 50 kVA solar power system suitable for a school. 2. Obtain a minimum of three local quotes for the main parts of a 50 kVA solar power system.

Kindly assist with a quote for insurance purposes. In Oct I had a Geyser Wise Heating system installed by GWH (Gauteng water heating, which included an Eskom rebate on this system of R4 .00, the final total on the quote was R9 .98. I insured the system for R10 .00. In Jan the insurance broker contacted me to increase the insured amount to R15 .00, which I did. In Nov I upgraded the system (New installation of pipes, new PV Panel, new 12V pump, 2 new shutter valves, new non-return valve, leggings = Total R.00) In Oct the body corporate changed to a different insurance company and now the geyser wise system is no longer insured. They request a quote with the replacement value for the system before they will insure the system again. I do have a COC that was issued after the installation/upgrade. Please let me know if you require any further information.
Have a solar system with gel batteries. This morning something wrong with the inverter smelled smoke. System 5 years installed. Company who installed it disappeared. Electrical company isolated the inverter and solar system and is only using City Power grid now. At this stage the DB Board done but must get Co C, must arrange for the sub DB Board for outside buildings during this week
Hi. I am returning to SA and intent on buying a 2 bed 2 bath home in a cluster facility. I am one person. I intend on installing a gas stove. I will need power during loadshedding for 1 router, 3-4 lights and fridge/freezer. I will require battery facilities, with a separate geyser solar facility. I am more interested in battery capacity in case of loadshedding. I will have a roof available for panel location. I would also like a charging station inside the driveway as I intend to buy a hybrid car. Please can you give me some indication of price/capability/ etc. Thank you.
