Carport — flat roof design

  • R300 – R1000/sqm

A carport with a flat roof is a modern type of carport. While the roof itself is completely flat, it must be installed at an angle to allow for the rain water to run off. The framework of the carport can be made either of metal or wood. For the roof, usually galvanized roof sheeting, chroma-deck sheeting, or polycarbonate plastic is used. A flat-roof carport can be up to 50% more expensive than a more traditional pitched carport. The cost of a flat-roof carport typically runs from R300/sqm to R1000/sqm, averaging at R650/sqm.

Carport — a-frame pitched

  • R450 – R600/sqm

An a-frame or pitched carport is a carport with a traditional type of roof, usually with two slopes of the same pitch on either side. The framework of the carport can be made either of metal or wood. For the roof, usually galvanized roof sheeting, chroma-deck sheeting, or polycarbonate plastic is used. For a pitched (a-frame) carport, expect to pay between R450/sqm and R600/sqm.

Carport installation

Price of carport installation per square metre. Installation cost depends on the chosen material (steel, aluminium, wood), whether you need to install any electricity or other features. Prices also vary from installer to installer. Carport installation costs range between R150/sqm and R190/sqm with an average of R170/sqm.

Carport — shade net

  • R200 – R600/sqm

Shade ports are a cost-effective alternative to traditional solid carports, made of metal or wood. Instead of sheeting, they use a shade netting made from high-density polyethylene, which is a light-weight yet robust material. The framework is usually made of steel and can rest on four columns, two columns (cantilever) or be be mounted into a wall. Shadeports also come in different sizes and configurations. They are usually sized to the number of carports they can hold: single (2,5x5m), double (5x5m) and triple (7,5x5m). The average cost of a shade-net carport is R400/sqm, or typically between R200/sqm and R600/sqm.
