This is the cost of an average garden design and installation. The cost depends on many factors, primarily on the size of your garden, the type and volume of selected plants and all additional elements, from water features and irrigation to hard-landscaping work and lighting. It additionally varies according to the chosen materials and if any prep-work is necessary (clean-up, tree felling, etc.). For average garden build, expect to pay between R50,000 and R80,000.

I would like to request a quote for a simple garden layout, mostly planting of lawn/grass and installation of irrigation. Regarding irrigation in particular, I would like to have water tanks installed for gathering rain water to be used when the tanks have water, otherwise a switch system of sorts to use municipality water when tank water is not available, including an automated/timing system for watering the garden. I'm not sure if that is something you do, or if it is something I would have to do beforehand. Nevertheless, I would still like to get an idea of what the installation of irrigation and planting of grass would cost at my home. The garden is in a sorry state and I think this is the right direction to go. Would it be possible for someone to come and look and provide me with a quote or rough estimate, that such a project would cost me? We rent our freestanding home with garden. It has not been watered and much in the garden has died. There are mature trees throwing lots of shade. The soil type is naturally clay, but the beds have been enriched previously. I only want hardy waterwise plants. The small lawn needs replacement (in shade a good deal of the day). The gravel parking areas alongside the drive need weed killing. An overgrown ornamental vine trellis needs a strong prune. And beyond that, some general flower bed neatening.
