Hi, I’m currently obtaining several quotations for a residential solar and battery system for our home in Glencairn. I will compare the proposed system design, equipment, expandability and total installed cost before selecting an installer. This will be the first stage of a longer-term project. Our aim is to gradually reduce our reliance on the grid and potentially become fully off-grid in the future. Expandability and long-term system design are therefore important to me. For the initial installation, I’m considering: - Deye 8 kW single-phase hybrid inverter, or a comparable high-quality alternative - Approximately 4.5–5 kWp of solar panels - Approximately 10 kWh of LiFePO4 battery storage - Full-black solar panels preferred - Grid-connected with City of Cape Town - System should be capable of future feed-in/export - Initial backup for essential loads, with the possibility of moving towards whole-house backup later Our current electricity consumption is approximately kWh per month. There is sufficient roof space. The main roof has approximately ENE and WSW-facing sections, so I would like the PV layout and MPPT configuration to take both orientations into account. The inverter and batteries can be installed in the garage. The main DB is located in the kitchen. I would like the system to be designed so that we can later add significantly more battery capacity and PV without having to replace the inverter or other major components.
