I am a 42-year-old woman, and my partner and I have been together since . We had our son in , and he is now 16 years old. During our relationship, we jointly applied for and purchased a property in Cosmo City. A few years later, my financial circumstances deteriorated, and I was placed under debt review. My partner then suggested removing my name from the bond and ownership of the property so that he could become the sole owner and apply for a further bond. Initially, I was not comfortable signing away my interest in the property. However, I felt pressured and manipulated until I eventually agreed and signed the necessary documents. Sometime after this, my partner left our son and me living in the Cosmo City property. We remained there for more than five years, during which time I paid the bond and other household expenses. In , my partner suggested that we try to rebuild our relationship. I agreed and later moved into his property in Northriding. The Cosmo City property was subsequently rented out to tenants. We later moved to a newly purchased property in Fourways. This property, like the Cosmo City and Northriding properties, is registered solely in my partner’s name. Therefore, all three properties are currently registered in his name, despite my history and financial contributions to the Cosmo City property. When we reconciled in , lobola was paid for the first time. However, our customary marriage was not registered with the Department of Home Affairs. Over the years, we have experienced several recurring disagreements and relationship difficulties. My partner has now arranged a meeting between our families so that he can inform them that he no longer wishes to continue with our union. I would like the relationship to be dissolved as peacefully and amicably as possible. However, after approximately 18 years together, raising our son and contributing financially to the household and the Cosmo City property, I am concerned about leaving the relationship without any financial or housing security. I am looking to build a modern Nutec residential unit/cottage of approximately 70–80 square metres. The unit will be used as a permanent living space and should include one separate bedroom large enough for a queen-size bed, a bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin, and an open-plan lounge and kitchenette area. The lounge should be spacious enough to comfortably accommodate a 2.8m x 2m L-shaped couch, TV area and additional living space. The kitchenette should have enough space for a full-size fridge, cupboards, sink and countertop space. I do not currently require a built-in stove or oven, but would like the kitchenette designed to accommodate appliances in future. I would also like adequate storage/cupboard space and good natural lighting with windows. The unit should be suitable for comfortable living with three indoor cats, so secure doors and windows are important. I am a former SANDF officer with 26 years of service. I was convicted of fraud in a military disciplinary process, and I am not seeking to challenge the conviction at this stage. My primary concern is the sentence imposed and the resulting dismissal, which I believe raises issues of proportionality, legality and constitutional rights. The matter has already proceeded through the military justice system, including the Court of Military Appeals.
