When do I need a building permit in South Africa?
In South Africa, building applications for the construction of property and land use are highly regulated.
I'm considering the possibility of adding a 2nd story to my house. Would like a similar layout to the ground floor with the exception of a kitchen on the top floor and using that extra space for a outside balcony section. House 60sqm and would want the top floor to consist of 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, with a open space for and entertainment area and balcony area. I attached the original plans for the house.

Building of additional Bedroom (6m X 4.5m) and interleading Family Room (6m X 6m) contructed as a Log Cabin using timber constructio throughout with IBR Sheeting for Roof. No plumbing work is required.I have consulted with a construction and building Company and have attached a basic drawing of what is reuqired and Specification sheet of proposed building materials. I would like to have a 42 square meter wendy house built that would consist of two 3.5mx3.5m bedrooms, a 1.5mx2m bathroom and an open plan lounge/kitchen that would be 5.5mx2m. Attached is a building model of what it might look like. Please advise on how much it would cost to draw up plans for this structure and whether it is even necessary to draw up plans or not. I wish to add a second dwelling to my site with 0.5 bathrooms. The site is located in King William's Town, EC. The dwelling is intended for 2 persons and it must comprise of a single bedroom with en-suite, and an open plan lounge/tv room-kitchen. The small kitchen should have sufficient space to accommodate a washing machine, dishwasher, integrated 4 plate stove with oven and extractor and double basin kitchen sink with drainboard and a fridge.
