For your first meeting, gather all relevant documentation such as passports, existing visa documentation, any prior immigration applications, and any correspondence with the Department of Home Affairs. Having a clear timeline of your immigration history and a list of questions will also help maximize the effectiveness of your consultation.
The duration of immigration processes in South Africa can vary significantly based on the type of application and the current workload of the Department of Home Affairs. Your lawyer can give you a general estimate based on recent experiences, but expect processes like visa applications and permanent residency to take anywhere from a few months to over a year.
I am travelling to SA on 28 May with my wife. We are planning on staying for 4 days to celebrate ny father-in-law's 90th birthday. We have dual citizenship, SA and Ireland. Our SA passports expired and are currently in the possession of the SA Embassy in Dublin and the Dept of Home Affairs in SA. We were planning on travelling to SA using our Irish passports but have been told that this is not permitted. I have a letter from the SA Embassy stating that our SA passports are in their possession, for renewal, and are not expected to be back from SA for months to come yet. I want to have a connection with an immigration lawyer before landing in Johannesburg so that if help is required on the day, that we already have a relationship.

We are seeking urgent legal intervention to defend against an unprocedural lease cancellation and to initiate asset recovery. Specifically: Procedural Defect: The landlord’s attorneys (Blackbeard Inc.) issued a notice of cancellation following a demand period of only 24 hours, which we believe is a breach of the procedural requirements of the lease and South African property law. Financial Irregularities: The landlord is incorrectly invoicing our company for legal fees without a court order and has misclassified standard rent as 'hold over damages.' Security Deposit Recovery: We require a formal demand for a full statement and the return of our ZAR 32, security deposit plus all accrued interest, as mandated by the Rental Housing Act. Harassment & Risk Mitigation: We require a professional barrier to stop direct landlord harassment of our directors and to prevent any unauthorized credit blacklisting of the company.

Hi I'm an independent contractor with a courier company. Signed a 5yr contract last year April. Monday(4 May) a few of us received termination letters, reason being "we costing the company more than we make" but with that they offer a new contract, mostly benefiting them. This new contract they tried to implement earlier this year across the country for all drivers, but everyone said no as it's only benefiting the company. Now they have this new strategy of targeting only a few. I haven't signed the 30 day termination letter, but know that doesn't make it invalid. Thanks
Myself and my partner have been paying toward my mother’s property expenses, including the mortgage bond and upkeep, for many years (since around ), with the understanding that the property would ultimately be transferred/sold to me. A signed Agreement of Sale exists acknowledging these bond payments. There is now a family dispute, and I need urgent legal advice on whether we have an enforceable claim or reimbursement/unjust enrichment claim, and whether steps need to be taken to protect the property or sale proceeds.
