Do I need an architect if I want to build a house in South Africa?
A professional that is registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession must submit the building plans before extending, renovating or building a home.
We would like to build a small farmhouse in Mcgregor, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living area and a large outside patio. Ideally, we would like to build same in such a way that future renovation and/or extension thereof will be simple. The property (m2) is marked with a star on the attached diagram. Still a rough idea with no architect plab yet: Single storey 4 bedrooms, main ensuite , 2 toilet and baths patio, kitchen, scullery , dining , office, backroom with bath & toilet. Pool 10 X 5, lapa

I have a plot in the Overberg in Botrivier. I have sold my business and would like to move there in the early part of next year. I would like to build a 1.5 bedroomed home. I need plans drawn up and the assistance to take this for Municipal approval. I am vascillating between utilizing Nutec or brick and I am not sure which route to go with? My main concern is a very well insulated but sunny home that is reasonably stylish and cottagey and quaint but not overpriced. I have quite a lot of metal in my body and feel the cold enormously.
